Homecoming Talk

I just finished reading and now plan on carefully studying the talk my niece gave upon her return from her 18 month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  I was just amazed as I read the profound thoughts gathered from this young woman's mind and heart.  There is no doubt that she has been carefully tutored by the Spirit of the Lord.  Her message was wise beyond her years and I am sure that anyone who heard it was touched by that Spirit.  This is what serving the Lord does for us and why the Lord expects His young people of the church to leave their homes and all their comforts and go out into the world and teach His gospel for eighteen months to two years.  They experience a myriad of things about the world and it's people, about different cultures and races.  They come to love the people they serve with, feelings they did not know they were capable of, because of the great sacrifices they make for them.  I saw this in my own life as I served in Texas and in my children's lives as they served the people of Texas, Mexico and Arizona and as our family served together the people in Nebraska.  When our young people come home from their missions they are humble, teachable, goal oriented, service bound and remarkably more mature then when they left us.  They have relied upon the Lord and their ability to understand His desires for them in order to accomplish His work. There is no more soul searching endeavor one can take upon himself.  I am so proud of my niece and all the people who step out of their lives for a period of time and do nothing else but serve the Lord and His children. The blessings of wisdom and spiritual understanding will follow them for the rest of their lives.
